Croatia 1-1 Czech Republic: Perisic salvages a point after controversial Schick penalty

Ivan Perisic rescued a 1-1 draw for Croatia after Patrik Schick became the leading scorer in Euro 2020 with a controversial penalty.

Schick scored a decisive double, including a stunning long-range strike, in Czech Republic s opening 2-0 Group D win over Scotland at Hampden Park and put his side in front from the spot at the same venue.

Croatia were understandably aggrieved that Dejan Lovren was penalised for seemingly accidentally catching Schick on the nose with his elbow after the VAR asked Carlos del Cerro Grande to check the pitchside monitor in the first half.

Perisic levelled early in the second period, leaving Croatia three points behind Czech Republic and two adrift of England – who play Scotland later on Friday – with one game to play against S…

Kylian Mbappe has shrugged off the taunts from Argentina goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez following France s defeat in the World Cup final.

The Aston Villa keeper was then was pictured with a doll with the Paris Saint-Germain star s face stuck on it during an open-top bus parade in Buenos Aires.

Mbappe was not fazed by Martinez s behaviour and offered a blunt verdict when a question was posed to him about the antics.

Prediction: Norwich vs Tottenham

Best Odds: 11/10

Bookmaker:

Knowing that they can clinch a Champions League return this weekend, Tottenham will make the trip to an already-relegated Norwich on Sunday afternoon.

Norwich

Starting with the hosts, while Norwich might have made the decision to bring Dean Smith to Carrow Road back in November, the Canaries have failed to find any kind of boost. Although they might have been last seen playing out a 1-1 draw away at Wolves last weekend, the former Aston Villa boss has seen his side get hit with an immediate Championship return. Once again sat rock bottom of the Premier League table and looking like they will lift the wooden spoon this year, Norwich will know that they face a huge task on Sunday afternoon. In the midst of what has become another top-f…

The 52-year-old, who ran for Camp Nou s top job in 2010 and 2015, confirmed his intentions at a news conference on Thursday as he accused president Bartomeu and predecessor Sandro Rosell of mismanagement.

Howe: Swansea a benchmark for Bournemouth

Bournemouth manager Eddie Howe has challenged his side to emulate Swansea City in their bid to become an established Premier League team.

Swansea were on the brink of extinction and almost relegated to the Conference in 2003, before climbing to the Premier League just eight years later.

Bournemouth have enjoyed a similar feel-good story, with the club also falling on hard times financially and Howe pulling off a great escape to maintain the club s League Two status in the 2008-09 season.

Roll on six years and Bournemouth are about to embark on their first season in the Premier League, and Howe is hopeful his side can earn similar plaudits to Swansea for their attractive brand of football.

We have analysed a lot of the clubs that have got promoted and wha…

Fabregas: Spain want third consecutive European title

After racking up a century of Spain caps, Cesc Fabregas has set his sights on helping the European champions retain their crown at Euro 2016.

Fabregas captained Spain away to Ukraine on Monday as a 1-0 win rounded off a successful campaign, which saw Vicente del Bosque s side top Group C.

Spain beat Italy 4-0 in the final at Euro 2012 after seeing off Germany at Euro 2008 under Luis Aragones and the Chelsea midfielder is targeting an unprecedented treble.

It s going to be tough because nobody has ever won the Euros three times in a row, Fabregas is quoted by the Premier League club s official website.

But we will try to do our best, even if it will be a difficult task.

Our goal is always to win. Even though we had already qualified, we didn t g…

Inter Milan score three second-half goals to beat Torino and go top

Inter Milan earned their eighth league win of the season with three second-half goals to beat Torino 3-0.

Although Inter had a couple of chances in the first half, goalkeeper Yann Sommer kept them in the game when the hosts came on the attack, making a great save from Demba Seck’s effort.

Despite their positive chances, Torino fell behind after the break when Marcus Thuram and Lautaro Martinez scored within eight minutes of each other and Hakan Calhanoglu netted from the penalty spot in the final minutes to wrap the game up.

Three points sends Inter to the top of the Serie A table, one point above rivals AC Milan who take on Juventus on Sunday.

It was a penalty – Silva hits back at Burnley boss Dyche

Manchester City playmaker Bernardo Silva defended himself against criticism from Burnley manager Sean Dyche amid controversy over the penalty he won in the Premier League leaders 3-0 win at the Etihad Stadium.

Pep Guardiola s side are five points clear at the top of the table after Manchester United s surprise 2-1 defeat at Huddersfield Town, with Nicolas Otamendi and Leroy Sane scoring quickfire goals inside the final 20 minutes after Sergio Aguero broke the deadlock from the spot before half-time.

Silva went down under a challenge from Burnley goalkeeper Nick Pope to win the penalty and Dyche was unimpressed with what he judged to be a theatrical tumble from the Portugal international.

It s minimal contact and to get that high off the floor with your arms abov…
